When renting a car, you will notice that there are terms used that may be confusing at times especially for first time renters. Who would be too familiar about express pickup and express return if it is your first time to rent a car? Sometimes the terms and conditions stipulated in car rental agreement contains terms that are not easily understood. As a wise renter, you must strive to have an understanding of at least the basic car rental terms to fully understand the contract you are entering into. The following terms will help you gain understanding of car rental terms: - Insurance – The car rental company will always ask you about insurance. Insurance is vital for you and the company’s protection. In case of accident, you will be assured that the insurance company will cover the expenses. There are various insurance options that you can choose from: collision damage waiver, liability coverage, personal accident insurance, and personal effects insurance.
- Express Pick up and Express Return – When you are in hurry, you can pick up and return the car without going through the usual procedure of talking to a sales representative.
- Valet Service – If you have already dropped off the car but need to go the airport after that, you can get a valet service. This is a service offered by car rental companies wherein they send someone to drop you off at the airport or anywhere you are going.
- Basic Rate – Check the rate carefully. When you say basic rate, it is the rate of the car only. Other fees like insurance are still to be added. So when you set a budget, don’t look at the basic rate only. Add all other fees as well.
- Delivery/Collection – If you are not able to pick up the car, you can ask the car rental company to have the car delivered to you. In the same manner, if you are unable to drop off the car, you can have it collected from your location. This service incurs extra charge.
- Grace Period – You will have a set time and date to return of the car. When this time lapses, you will have to pay for another day. But car rental companies usually give a grace period which means you are given some more time to return the car without charging you extra.
